What Will the 2021-2022 School Year Look Like at McQuaid Jesuit?

With life returning to normal again, students at McQuaid Jesuit can only wonder what the future of school withholds.

With life returning to normal again, students at McQuaid Jesuit can only wonder what the future of school withholds.

McQuaid Jesuit has had countless changes made to its code of conduct and schedule in the current school year. What can we as students expect for the 2021-2022 school year, now that COVID-19 cases are being limited in New York?

COVID-19 proved to many just how quickly things in our lives can change. In our school life, ordinary things in our schedules such as lunch, flex and class times have been adjusted to fit our modern lives.

First, we have to look at the schedule of classes at McQuaid. In the 2019 school year, McQuaid had a nine class day, with 45 minutes each class. Nowadays, students have four classes, each being 1 hour and 15 minutes long. McQuaid recently held a vote for students on which schedule they prefer, and the majority of students were in favor of the four class schedule.

“I believe the four class schedule is way more effective than a nine class schedule.” Says Michael Sutton, ‘23. “You can retain more material.”

Students at McQuaid have found the four class schedule to be much less stressful, and more time efficient than the regular nine class schedule.

One big change present at McQuaid has been the dress code. Students were excused from wearing blazers and ties in hopes to limit spread of the virus. But, with more than 45% of the New York population vaccinated, it’s likely we will be back to uniforms in september.

Other changes likely being brought back to McQuaid next year are amenities for students which were eradicated for the 2020-2021 school year. Students can expect to see lunches return at the Cafe, along with the restriction of school bags in hallways, due to lockers also making a possible reinstatement.

With all the modifications students at McQuaid Jesuit have had to make in the 2020-2021 school year, life will be beginning to return to normal as the spread of COVID-19 has been limited severely. Fellow Knights will be able to support our teams, each lunch with friends, and attend McQuaid the way it used to be.
