Mr. Bott Joins Social Studies Department

Ian Mills, '19

Veteran teacher Mr. Rich Bott joined the McQuaid Social Studies Department in September.

Mr. Richard Bott is McQuaid’s newest social studies teacher. He teaches history to the sophomores and juniors in Mrs. Stoffel’s old room, 153.

Mr. Bott formerly taught at Bishop Kearney, then Red Jacket High School for 17 years. He said that Catholic education is very important to him, and he is glad McQuaid welcomed him. In his first few months, he has had lots of help from many teachers and staff, including Mr. Ray Ruhlman, Mr. Walt Gordinier, Mr. James Clar, Mrs. Teresa Maguire, and Dr. Kathleen Ruppert.

Mr. Bott is a very accessible teacher, in a prime spot in the heart of the campus, making him easy to find and willing to help.

Mr. Bott is finding our educational technology helpful, as he has his students do guided reading on the iPads. He also likes Schoology, as he sees it as a way students can check their grades frequently.  At Red Jacket, they had Chromebooks, but he prefers the iPads.

His favorite movies are the three original Star Wars movies. His favorite show is The Andy Griffith Show starring Andy Griffith. His favorite book is When Character was King by Peggy Noonan, which is about Ronald Reagan, the 40 president of the United States. He loves to read and watch the Buffalo Sabres or New York Yankees. He also enjoys skiing and hiking.

Mr. Bott sees McQuaid as a well-oiled machine compared to his former jobs, and he is excited for the years to come.  Say hello to Mr. Bott the next time you see him!
