After a loss in the Section V final during the 2019-2020 season, the McQuaid Jesuit Knights look forward to the season with high hopes as they begin to prepare for the upcoming 2020-2021 basketball season.

Even with the departures of alumni Kobe Long and Jermaine Taggart, the Knights are still optimistic about the upcoming season. With nine returning players, including Keith Warren, Joe Cairns, and Jordan Brongo, and young talent coming from the junior varsity team, the Knights are shaping up to have another great season.

“I’m excited about the group we have, I think it’s a group that works really hard, that’s high IQ, and plays together. Every year I’m excited to see what we can do with what we got,” said Coach Jack Leasure.

For the past three years, the McQuaid Jesuit Knights have been among the most dominant teams in section five, winning the sectional championship two times in the past three years. Coming off a loss in the sectional championship last year, the McQuaid Knights are looking to get back on top.

With COVID-19 cases rising in Monroe County, and the possibility of the season getting postponed, junior William Taylor, ’22 weighed in on what the team’s mentality was going into the season.

“Our mentality going into this season is leave it all on the floor. After last year’s ending we have nothing to lose. We have a goal to win sectionals, and that is all that’s on our mind,” said Taylor.

The Knights had their first workout of the season October 30th, 2020. They look forward to being back in the sectional championship this season and reclaiming their title as Section V class AA champions.
