Sophomores Kobe Long, Reuben Daniel, and Jermaine Taggart are dominating for the varsity basketball team this season.

So far this season, the McQuaid Jesuit varsity basketball team has a record of 10-7. The three sophomores have recorded impressive numbers, especially in the scoring category. The three have combined for an average of about 40 points per game. Long feels he and his sophomore teammates have performed to their level of talent this season. “This is what we should be doing; we always expect greatness,” he said.

Six-foot-three guard Jermaine Taggart has been an outstanding offensive contributor this season, averaging about 20 points per game. He hopes to continue to perform at such an impressive level in upcoming seasons at McQuaid Jesuit.

Taggart wishes to achieve goals both on and off the court. “My main goal I hope to achieve is to win a State championship for McQuaid. I also want to be remembered as more than just a basketball player when I’m a senior; I want kids to look up to me as a great person outside of basketball,” he said.

Six-foot-one guard Kobe Long has had a similar season offensively, averaging an impressive 14 points per game. This is his second season playing varsity basketball for McQuaid. Long’s goal by the end of his basketball career at McQuaid is quite simple. “I want to win a regional and State championship,” he said.

Six-foot-four forward Reuben Daniel has been a dominant big man, showing an impressive scoring ability by dropping 18 points in the victory over Aquinas. He has also utilized his height very well, grabbing rebounds and making impressive blocks. He has potential to be a very good forward for McQuaid in future years.

Head Coach Jack Leasure has done an excellent job developing these younger players to reach the level they are at now. The sophomores enjoy playing for him, and are always pushed to improve. “Coach Leasure has done an effective job of developing me and the other younger players by setting us up into doing college level activities,” Taggart said.

These three sophomores show amazing potential for the next couple of years. With this incredible young talent, greatness is surely in store for the McQuaid Jesuit varsity basketball team in the near future. “I think that we can win a sectional and State championship,” Taggart said. “We have the best talent in the class of 2020, so I expect us to be ranked top 20 in the whole world.”
