New Faces Coming to McQuaid Basketball

McQuaid celebrating game winning block with the return of former player Isaiah Stewart.

McQuaid Jesuit basketball is changing and no one knows what will happen with  this new young team. With only five players on the official roster returning, the team is subject to major changes.

The roster has changed significantly  from last year, losing some of its star players. Former 6-foot-10  center Cam Wilson has graduated, Thomas Jones left and is now currently playing for Gates-Chili, and star player Isaiah Stewart has left for La Lumiere High School, a prep school in Indiana. At some times in the season this was three-fifths  of their starting line up.

They will have to build more chemistry with the new players and respond to adversity. Captain point guard Anthony Iglesia believes that they can rise to the occasion. He and fellow teammate Kobe Long plan on seeing many victories this season.

Iglesia pointed out that last season they sometimes played without  Jones, Wilson and Stewart, so playing without them will be nothing new. They are confident that the replacements for these star players will be able to fill their shoes and be competent on the court.

Iglesia  feels they will be able to adjust to loss of height. They have excellent shooters on the team that are returning such as senior Divine Williams and a new addition to the team, sophomore Jermaine Taggart.

Iglesia said, “we have other ways to score besides in the post.” We have talented shooters and ball handlers.” He also feels good about his chances of winning.
