Walsh and Beauchamp celebrate after a big play.

The lethal duo of juniors Hunter Walsh and Ben Beauchamp led the Varsity Football Knights to a 6-1 regular season.

The RCAC (Rochester City Athletic Conference) title was given to the Knights with a 10-8 victory over the Wilson Wildcats. This was the team’s second consecutive RCAC championship.

“This is a really solid group of guys.  They are competing for the guy next to them, they are competing for their brother,” Coach Bobby Bates said. Throughout the first five games, they averaged 42 points per game.

Walsh and Beauchamp have been playing with each other since freshman year in other sports, including baseball and basketball.

“Our chemistry is very strong, and has been building up since freshman year. It just started to click from there and become even stronger. We both put a lot of work in the offseason and we both have a great deal of trust in each other,” Walsh said. During the first six games of the season, Walsh threw eight touchdowns to Beauchamp.

The Knights’ only loss of the season came to Aquinas at home by a score of 34-0, their 12th straight loss to the Lil’ Irish. Aquinas took advantage of three McQuaid turnovers, including a 102-yard interception returned for a touchdown, and also blocked a punt. With McQuaid only losing by 4 points on the road last year, many thought this would be the end of the losing streak.

The memorable season came to an end with a 35-27 loss to the Pittsford Panthers.
