McQuaid Soccer, Better Than Ever

Mr. Adam Baber

McQuaid Jesuit Varsity Soccer has had an unparalleled season thus far, and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon while being ranked 2nd in the Nation by USA Today.

As they make their way into the state tournament under Coach Nino Pilato, the team plans on making a run that has never been done at McQuaid Jesuit before.

McQuaid Jesuit Soccer has never won a state championship, while only winning one regional title in 2005. The 2017 soccer season is the only other time in the school’s history that its varsity soccer program has been nationally ranked, (McQuaid Jesuit Soccer was ranked 6th in the country by ESPN Rise in 2009).

The Soccer Knights are having a sensational season under Coach Pilato.  He was formerly the Girls Soccer coach at Greece Odyssey with tremendous success, reaching the state tournament four times. The former professional soccer player, and Greece Olympia graduate comes to McQuaid Jesuit with a plethora of experience under his belt.

The team’s point differential is at an outstanding 85-5 as they go into a Class AA Semi-Final game against Webster Thomas. Multiple players have had an impact on the team’s success this season, but one player in particular has had a special impact. That player’s name is Dominic Duncan, a senior at McQuaid Jesuit who leads the team in goals at a whopping 16 goals!

The McQuaid Jesuit Varsity Soccer team of the 2017 season has truly been phenomenal–out playing and out scoring each of their opponents thus far.

As McQuaid goes into the state semi-final game on Saturday, November 11 against Ithaca High School, they hope to keep the burning streak going.
